Common dental emergencies

When should you call us?

If something hurts, feels swollen, broke unexpectedly, or prevents you from eating normally, call our office. We will help determine how quickly you should be seen.

Severe Toothache

Persistent, throbbing, or biting pain may be caused by decay, infection, a cracked tooth, or inflammation inside the tooth.

Broken or Cracked Tooth

Early evaluation can help determine whether a damaged tooth can be repaired with bonding, a filling, a crown, or root canal treatment.

Swelling or Abscess

Facial swelling, gum swelling, drainage, fever, or a bad taste can indicate infection and should be evaluated promptly.

Lost Crown or Filling

A missing restoration can leave a tooth sensitive or vulnerable. We can evaluate whether it can be recemented, repaired, or replaced.

Dental Injury

Falls, sports injuries, and accidents can loosen, displace, fracture, or knock out teeth. Timing can be important.

Broken Denture or Implant

We evaluate damaged dentures, loose implant restorations, broken prosthetic teeth, and other appliance concerns.

Emergency dental evaluation

More than a temporary patch

Our goal is to solve the immediate problem while protecting your long-term oral health.

Emergency FAQs

Questions patients commonly ask.

Can you see me today?+

We reserve time for urgent problems whenever possible. Call early so our team can assess your symptoms and find the soonest appropriate opening.

Can my tooth be saved?+

Many painful or damaged teeth can be restored. The answer depends on the amount of remaining tooth structure, infection, bone support, cracks, and your long-term goals.

Will you complete treatment during the emergency visit?+

Often we can, but it depends on the diagnosis, treatment complexity, your medical history, and the time available that day.

Should I go to the hospital?+

Most toothaches require a dentist for definitive treatment. Hospital emergency departments are appropriate for significant facial trauma, uncontrolled bleeding, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or rapidly worsening swelling.

What should I do with a knocked-out permanent tooth?+

Handle the tooth by the crown, not the root. If it is dirty, gently rinse it without scrubbing. Place it back in the socket if possible or keep it moist in milk, and call a dentist immediately.

Do not spend another night in pain

Call Same Day Dental today.

Our team will help determine how urgently you need to be seen and work to provide the right next step.

I was back home visiting my family and went into the office to have a crown that fell off re-cemented. They got me in right away. They are not my normal dentist only due to where I live but I would 100% recommend them based on my experience. The office was friendly and helpful. I got in same day and my tooth is in place! I had a fantastic time chatting while I waited and had an overall positive experience. 10/10

Excellent place. Friendly, knowledgeable, transparent and patient. Had a toothache come and go for the last two years. Saw a few dentists who " didn't see anything " on the x ray. The dentist here, Dr. Boyce, within a few minutes found the troubled tooth and diagnosed it. Prior to the treatment, he placed numbing gel, and when he used the needle to numb it further I didn't feel the needle AT ALL. I highly recommend this place.
